George Walsh was a giant of a man who weighed 23 stones. He was also a Master Coach on Power Lifting who had trained champions by the shedload in his gym in Preston.
The year was 1955, I was in the Army and stationed at the Fulwood Barracks. I had gone to his gym for a workout and on the one occasion I met him my squat bar was loaded to about 350lbs – not bad for a lad who only weighed 10 stones. George came over to me and whispered in my ear ‘you’re concentrating on the movement – concentrate on pushing through the movement.’
In the next few weeks my poundage shot up 30%! A simple piece of advice delivered simply. So remember keep it short and simple.
