Messi knows how to play soccer. The fact that he didn’t know exactly what he knows, and can’t explain it, doesn’t keep him from playing soccer, scoring goals and being the best and most talented player in the world. If he tried to explain it, it could possibly go wrong - just let him get on with it. Try it yourself, explain what it is you are good at and what makes you tick. Branson, Jobs, Gates, Ronaldo are all recipients of having an undefinable talent. We only see the results, not why, or how it works. Einstein explained it by saying, ‘that he had none and put it down to an un-satiable...

Up Streaming is a term being used more and more frequently. It effectively means reaching the source rather than treating the source. I heard this parable recently at a Charity lunch. The story tells of three friends walking alongside the river who saw a group of young people swimming. The children were unaware that down stream was a waterfall, but the three friends immediately saw the danger. One of the three jumped in and started to bring the kids to safety – the second started to build a raft to rescue more – the third however, ignored the children and set off upstream. What are you doing said the other two? We need to save the children! Disappearing upstream he said we need to stop the source or many more children will lose their lives. The moral to the story is obvious; if we do not find the source of our problems, we could go on and on making the same mistakes. It’s a little like our Fitness Industry giving our customers more and more equipment and classes, but less and less of customer...

It may or may not come about, but the Fitness Industry right now is moving away from customer service and throwing more toys into the crib! The big chains in their wisdom are now developing more and more variations on exercise classes. The strategy on this is, we will need only one instructor to control twenty or thirty people. If the industry wants more new members and more members to stay we should be giving more service to more people on a one to one basis. Only then will the industry stop losing people to other activities. People don’t want more toys – they want more...

The difference between creativity and innovation is: Creativity is thinking about it and Innovation is doing it.

My wife Brenda is on the committee member of our local Cancer Research UK. Today was their annual charity lunch and at this event they will hopefully raise in the region of £6000. Events like this are going on all over the world with local people giving their time for a most worthy cause. Both Brenda and I have been involved in Cancer Research for well over 40 years. We first started raising money in the mid seventies for Leukaemia in Children and we are still doing our bit. It’s a great feeling knowing our efforts play a significant part in the research to beat this terrible disease. Just thought I would share this with...
